Oxford Regional Labour Council Equity Statement on ATTAWAPISKAT
The Oxford Regional Labour Council stands in solidarity with our Indigenous Sisters and Brothers in their struggle to improve the living conditions in Attawapiskat.
We stand together with the community as they fight to address the realities that have led to an alarming number of suicides and suicide attempts. Our condolences go out to the families affected.
Clean drinking water, improved living conditions, full-time medical facilities, fully resourced educational facilities, employment opportunities, Nurses and Firefighters are included in the list of the community demands. These items are staples that every community across Ontario should have as their basic right.
As such we stand with the Indigenous community and call upon the Federal and Ontario Provincial governments to collaborate with the Indigenous community in Attawapiskat to quickly resolve the challenges with lasting solutions.
